STATEMENT OF FLORIDA LGBTA DEMOCRATIC CAUCUS ON RICK SCOTT’S SENATE CAMPAIGN

The Florida LGBTA Democratic Caucus, an arm of the Florida Democratic Party representing lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Democrats, issued the following statement from President Terry Fleming on Rick Scott entering the US Senate race against Senator Bill Nelson:
“Despite his disastrous tenure as governor of Florida, Rick Scott wants a promotion to the US Senate. Florida, don’t be fooled again. Wages for Florida workers are near the bottom, but Rick Scott’s wealth while in office has grown by $46 million. He promised to expand health care coverage, then admitted he lied about that promise. He could easily ensure Florida’s LGBT state employees are protected from discrimination with the stroke of a pen, yet refuses to take action. And most importantly for Florida’s LGBT community, Rick Scott has barely acknowledged the devastating and lasting impact the Pulse massacre has had on LGBT Floridians, passing up even the simple gesture of wearing a Pulse ribbon in memory of the 46 victims. In Washington, Rick Scott would be a cheerleader for the Trump administration, instead of being a check on the craziness.”
